Senate Bill 13 - Tribal History/ Shared History
This Oregon law directs Oregon Department of Education to create K-12 Native American Curriculum for inclusion in Oregon Public schools and to provide professional development to educators. SB 13 also directs ODE to provide funds to each of the nine federally recognized tribes in Oregon to create indiviual placed-based curriculum.
What is Title VI—Indian Education
According to the United States Department of Education, the purpose of the Title VI Indian Education grant is to “support the efforts of local educational agencies, Indian Tribes and organiza-tions to meet the unique educational and culturally related aca-demic needs of American Indian and Alaska Native students so that such students can meet challenging academic achievement standards.
The No Child Left Behind Act and The Every Child Succeeds Act—embodies four key principles: stronger accountability for results, greater flexibility in the use of federal funds, more choices for parents of children from disadvantaged backgrounds and an emphasis on research based instruction.
