Lost River students, staff collect food; provide 20 Thanksgiving boxes for area families
Twenty Merrill and Malin families received a turkey and a food box last week stuffed to the brim with Thanksgiving meal goodies and lots of extras – pastas, beans, pancake mixes, sweets – thanks to Lost River Junior/Senior High School students and staff.
Lost River leadership students prepared the boxes late last week, and staff delivered them to families on Friday. Students collected more than 900 food items during a school-wide food drive for the projects. Martin’s Food Center donated 20 turkeys and Cal-Ore Potatoes donated 20 bags of potatoes for the boxes.
The school has sponsored the project for more than 35 years, said Lost River leadership advisor Jen Johnson. Johnson, a 1986 graduate of Lost River, remembers participating as a high school student.
As they filled the boxes, leadership students took time to write personal notes to the families.
