Brixner band performs at Pelican Pointe
Nov. 10. 2022 / The Brixner Junior High School band performed for residents of Pelican Pointe Assisted Living on Wednesday. They were joined by Michael Levine, head of the professional musical ensemble, the Dallas Brass.
The performance was a culmination of a multi-day clinic Levine, who worked with student musicians as part of group’s Harmony Bridge program. Harmony Bridge is a community outreach program designed to teach kids how to organize and run a rehearsal, and set up a performance at a local retirement center or assisted living facility.
The students performed several songs. At one point, Jeannie, a resident of Pelican Pointe, sang Bingo as Levine held the microphone for her and student musicians performed the song. After the performance, students and residents enjoyed ice cream treats as they talked to each other.
“This was one of the best performances I have heard from students,” Pelican Pointe resident Bobbi told staff afterwards.
