We have noticed that the distraction of cell phones and air pods/earbuds in the classroom are making it hard for students to focus and learn. This coming school year, we will be having cell phone free zones and cell phone free times during the school-day. Our goal is to get our students in a better spot educationally, socially, and emotionally.
During the past several years, we have seen an uptick in cell phone distractions in the classroom, online bullying happening during the school-day, and even an inability to resist the urge to check the phone during actual teaching. We are committed to pulling together as a team to give our students the attention and education they deserve, and we hope that our families will help support and join in these efforts as we head into the new school year.
What does this mean for Chiloquin High School this coming year? Our classrooms will be cell phone free zones and class periods will be cell phone free times (regardless of where a student is in the building). Phones will be required to be out of sight and silenced. Students will be able to have their phones out during passing periods, breaks and lunch periods. They are welcome to have them out prior to and after school. We will be following our current cell phone policy in regard to enforcement (please see CHS Handbook on our website).
