Title 1 School/Parent Compact
- Merrill Elementary will:
- Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the state’s student academic achievement standards. The school staff and administration will implement academic programs that are based on best practice and meet the differentiated needs of our students. Interventions and academic modifications will take place throughout the school year for both individual and whole class learning. Curriculum will be aligned with state standards to best meet the educational needs of students and to help guide them towards state benchmark standards.
- Hold parent-teacher conferences twice yearly during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held once in the fall (October) and again in the spring (March).
- Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, school report cards will be sent home at the completion of each six-week grading period. Report cards for the 1st and 4th six-week grading period may be picked up during the two scheduled parent conference times. A total of six report cards will be given during the school year.
- Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents before and after school hours. It is reasonable to request that parents call ahead of time to schedule an appointment with the teacher. Time is also available during the two parent-teacher conference times.
- Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in school-wide activities. Parents are invited to talk with the teacher and volunteer their time to help with such events. Background checks for volunteers are required for student and school safety.
- Parents will:
- Monitor my children’s attendance.
- Make sure homework is completed and returned in a timely manner.
- Provide guidelines at home for my children to abide by.
- Make sure my children get proper rest and nutrition.
- Participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my children’s education.
- Promote positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
- Students will:
- Follow the expectations, guidelines, and rules in the classroom and school and accept consequences for any misbehaviors.
- Be safe, respectful, and responsible.
- Give to my parents, guardian or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices and information received by me from my school every day.
- Do any assigned homework and ask for help when it is needed.
- Read at home nightly To, With, or Individually.
- Pay attention in class and do my best to be successful.

Our district uses the below curriculum in order to help the children achieve the Common Core State Standards.
- Reading: Savvas myView (Kindergarten-5th) and StudySync (6th)
- Math: iReady Math (Kindergarden - 5th) and Mid-School Math (6th)

Your Child will be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment SBAC in grades 3-6.
- Four Proficienct Levels for the SBAC
- Exceeds

- Nearly Meets
- Did not Meet
- Our goal is for your student to reach the "Meets" level on the SBAC. Our overall goal is that every student makes adequate growth.

You will be notified of your child's assessment results.
Timeline
- SBAC Testing is administered from March- May.
- SBAC Results are available to Parents in the Fall of the following school year.
