2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR UPDATES AND MESSAGES

JULY 30, 2021/ SUMMER SCHOOL
en español

Dear KCSD families and staff,
At this time, students attending KCSD summer school programs are welcome to wear face coverings, but they are not required to do so.

At the direction of the governor, the Oregon Department of Education will be creating a rule requiring face coverings in all indoor school settings. However, Klamath County School District will not be implementing this rule until it is required.

The district has been advocating for local control since the beginning of the pandemic, and we will continue to work closely with Klamath County Public Health medical experts to make the best decisions for our school communities.

We will update our families and staff if requirements change.

Sincerely,
Glen Szymoniak, Superintendent
Klamath County School District

JULY 29, 2021 / GOVERNOR'S ANNOUNCEMENT
en español

Dear KCSD families and staff,
Our plan for the 2021-22 school year is to return to a regular school schedule with full-time, in-person learning five days a week. We had planned to do so without face coverings or other restrictions unless mandated otherwise by the state.

Today, Gov. Kate Brown directed the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education to create a rule to require masks indoors for K-12 schools statewide for the 2021-22 school year. Read her full statement HERE.

The district is receiving phone calls and emails, and we appreciate your input. However, we need to follow the law. Please continue to communicate your ideas, and let’s have a productive conversation about how best to handle the issues before us. If you would like to provide input to our board and administration, please send comments to: kcsd_communications@kcsd.k12.or.us.

We still have more than a month before school starts Sept. 7 and the situation and requirements could change. Let’s work together as a community to stay healthy and keep COVID-19 cases at a minimum.

Our goal is to provide the best education possible for students and staff while providing a safe environment to learn and work. We will update our families in mid-August with needed information on the upcoming school year. Thank you for your patience and support.

Sincerely,
Glen Szymoniak
Superintendent
Klamath County School District
